Donald G. ColebournA native of San Francisco, Don Colebourn’s real estate career has taken an interesting path into the world of retail and property investment.  Don became involved with PTLA in the 1980s as a General Partner in forming real estate partnerships to purchase various real estate properties as real estate investments.  He officially joined PTLA in 1998 as head of Acquisitions, was named Chief Operating Officer and now serves as Co-Chairman of PTLA.  Since joining PTLA he has been instrumental in building the current management team as well as directing the focus of PTLA’s investment strategy and acquisitions. 

Don began his career in retail, working in merchandising management for Sears. This was followed by top-level positions with the high-end retail chain of Joseph Magnins, where he managed the Southern California and Northern California regions with over 400 employees at one point, as well as the flagship store in San Francisco’s Union Square. 

Don started his real estate career in 1975, specializing in residential real estate. During this time he built from the ground up California’s 4th largest Century 21 franchise with over 90 agents. At the same time he started Diablo Mortgage Company specializing in placing loans on residential real estate and was actively involved in condo conversions, home development and forming real estate partnerships. From 1985 to 1996, Don entered into a licensing agreement with Pendleton Woolen Mills to open retail stores in Northern California to sell the Pendleton products.  He opened stores in Carmel, Palo Alto, San Francisco, Santa Rosa and Walnut Creek and became the largest Pendleton franchise in the U.S.

Don is currently lecturing regularly on entrepreneurship at Hanoi University, the Foreign Trade University and the National Economic University all in Vietnam.  He has served as a member of the board for a variety of organizations including the Regional Center for the Arts in Walnut Creek; the California Electric Corporation; Mills Corporation, and as President of the Century City Chamber of Commerce.

Don attended Yale University and San Francisco State University, graduating with a BA in 1964.
